I had almost forgotten how much I love the beach until we spent the day basking in the sun.  Even though it was extremely crowded, the sound of the waves and the breeze took me back to our vacations in Florida when I was a kid. Except the water is super cold, but the sand is clean and soft and the gulls still try to bully their way into your picnic basket.  This brings me to my explanation of what’s going on in the picture.  Here’s a closeup.
As I said the beach was crowded but everyone had enough space to enjoy the day without bumping into one another.  There was a couple in front of us who sat in their chairs fully clothed and, for some reason, brought a whole pie.  Then they proceeded to fall asleep.  It was so much fun watching the gulls sneak up to them and very quietly shove their heads into this box of pie. When the couple woke up and caught them they waved their arms and threw sand at the birds until they went away.  We wondered why they bothered to shoo the birds away.  Were they going to take the pie home and eat it later after birds had gouged the middle out of it?
Gross.
